Today was a long hike; in increasing heat. I am now sitting by the fountain in the courtyard at Logroño Municipal Albergue. It is around 30 deg C; going up to 33 or so tomorrow. We have walked around 28 kms today, a running total of around 165 kms so far.
Paul and I walked together, starting as the bells of the church of Santa Maria struck 07:00. A pleasant walk through agricultural fields and hills; changing from wheat to olives then to vines. Many fruit trees and asparagus also. As the sun popped through the clouds it shone on the wheat fields like gold; maybe this is where they get the gold to line their churches?
The Camino now has such long sections away from roads etc that they warn you if you are approaching traffic. Of course any signs get covered in graffiti.
Guys, remember when we made the patio at Casa Sara? Well our stone laying was better than some I saw this morning (photo below) mind you, this paving went on for nearly a mile; winding off over the hills.
I am now in Rioja country, having left Navarra behind. Logroño is the capital and is quite industrial (pop 140,000)
An even longer day tomorrow but it is now getting easier. The feet and legs now know what to do.
Some pictures below of discarded boots, the smallest shrine in Spain, my reflection in a mirror (not realising what was behind my head) a bizzare message written on a vest in a tree (nothing to do with me) and some pics approaching the city. And one of pilgrims cooling their feet.
Walking On Water
ReplyDeleteThree monks decided to practice meditation together. They sat by the side of a lake and closed their eyes in concentration. Then suddenly, the first one stood up and said, "I forgot my mat." He steeped miraculously onto the water in front of him and walked across the lake to their hut on the other side. When he returned, the second monk stood up and said, "I forgot to put my the other underwear to dry." He too walked calmly across the water and returned the same way. The third monk watched the first two carefully in what he decided must be the test of his own abilities. "Is your learning so superior to mine? I too can match any feat you two can perform," he declared loudly and rushed to the water's edge to walk across it. He promptly fell into the deep water. Undeterred, the yogi climbed out of the water and tried again, only to sink into the water. Yet again he climbed out and yet again he tried, each time sinking into the water. This went on for some time as the other two monks watched. After a while, the second monk turned to the first and said, "Do you think we should tell him where the stones are?"
